The “Flying Monkey”…

Your worst nightmare!

I always knew what a flying monkey was. I thought about it in the back of my mind and feared it would end up happening to me.

You may end up hearing something awful about someone but you realize that you have a mind of your own. You start to wonder why someone is so angry at someone you have never met or may have only met a few times in your life. That would be odd to jump to conclusions, right? You may tread lightly if you ever met the person they were referring to, right? Not jump in their face and say “I know what you did last summer”, right? Well that is NOT what flying monkeys do. Flying monkeys are the type of people who would go to court and realize that the stories they tell the jury is nothing but hearsay. They may go as far as to lie thinking what they are saying is actually true.

Even when I hear that someone is a kind person, I still side eye. I was told this while I was getting divorced in the courthouse by the bailiff referring to my ex husband. I was speechless. Everyone is entitled to their opinion but it was something I could not agree to 100%. I lived in fear, anger and anxiety often with this man. Did he NOT know why we were in the courthouse? It felt like I was on a reality show, looking for the camera. I have never met that bailiff before and he has never met me. The bailiff probably only knew him in a working environment or simply came to that conclusion due to my exes parents who were also flying monkeys.

Ok back to the subject

Still wondering what a flying monkey is?

According to Psych Central

Art imitates life and so it is with Flying Monkeys. The term was coined from the movie The Wizard of Oz in which the Wicked Witch dispatches monkeys to fly and get Dorothy and her dog. The monkeys obey her command, doing her dirty work for her, taunting and terrorizing Dorothy as she tries in vain to get back home. And so it is with narcissists and their flying monkeys.

As if a magical spell has taken over, the bond between the narcissist and their flying monkeys is one of unwavering loyalty even in the face of danger. When the narcissist wants to evoke some punishment on a target they dispatch their henchmen (aka flying monkeys) to do their bidding. Unfortunately, this can and often does include abusive behavior such as guilt-tripping, twisting the truth, gaslighting, assaults, threats, and violence. This keeps them out of harms way and able to claim innocence if caught.

Watch the video below. I see this more in working environments. Something I have seen happen a lot with HR.
